Yen Bai: Nearly 40 houses damaged due to heavy rains

Nearly 40 houses in Luc Yen district in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai were damaged due to torrential rains on August 6-7.

– Nearly 40 houses inLuc Yen district in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai were damageddue to torrential rains on August 6-7.

One house in Trung Tam commune completelycollapsed while 32 others in Phuc Loi, Trung Tam, and Phan Thanh communes wereseriously damaged.

Six houses are at risk of collapse and needremoval to safer places due to landslides.

Heavy rains also submerged 20 hectares of ricein Tan Linh commune.

There was a landslide on Highway 70 from Km 78to Km 80 in Phuc Loi commune, causing traffic jam for several hours.

The total economic losses were estimated atabout 500 million VND (21,462 USD).

Floods and landslides triggered by torrentialrains in the past days had left six dead, five missing and two injured in thenorthern mountainous region by 17:00 on August 5, according to the CentralSteering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

The natural disaster also collapsed sevenhouses, inundated 276 hectares of rice, destroyed 25 hectares of agriculturalland and damaged four cultural works and schools.-VNA

🌜 PM orders strengthened disaster preparedness ahead of storm season

Under the directive, the PM instructed relevant agencies to regularly inspect, supervise and proactively implement disaster prevention, response and rescue measures in line with their assigned roles and mandates, ensuring readiness, avoiding passivity or delays, and maintaining operational continuity amid ongoing political and administrative restructuring at levels.

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
