Yen Bai fast-tracks elimination of temporary and dilapidated homes
In 2025, Yen Bai launched a programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated homes, aiming to support all 2,208 homes, with an estimated cost of 120.69 billion VND (4.7 million USD). The province aims to complete this goal before August 30.

Yen Bai (VNA) ♔– The northern mountainous province of Yen Bai aims to complete the eradication of temporary and dilapidated homes by September this year. To date, several localities have already started construction of new homes for residents and are expected to complete the programme ahead of schedule.
Tram Tau, a mountainous district in the western part of Yen Bai province with a population of 120,000, is predominantly home to the Hmong ethnic group, which accounts for over 79%. It is one of the poorest and most disadvantaged districts in the country.
In 2025, Tram Tau plans to build and repair 253 houses for poor households, near-poor households, and policy beneficiary families. Of these, 225 houses will be newly built, and 28 will be repaired. As of March 30, the district had completed 57 out of the 253 households, including 46 newly built houses and 11 repaired ones. Currently, 100% of the remaining households have begun construction or repairs. Tram Tau aims to complete the housing support project for these groups by May 30.
Since 2016, Yen Bai has supported the construction of over 16,000 homes, including nearly 2,400 for policy beneficiary families and more than 13,600 for poor and near-poor households. The success of the temporary and dilapidated house eradication programme has helped reduce the poverty rate in Yen Bai from 32.21% in 2016 to just 5.86% in 2024. Yen Bai’s multidimensional poverty rate ranks 15th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide, and 4th among 14 northern mountainous provinces.

Many localities have adopted creative solutions, mobilising large resources from socialised funding and community support. As of March 28, the province had commenced the construction of 2,087 homes, reaching 94.5% of the target, with 1,728 new houses and 359 repaired homes./.
Over the past two years, under the housing support programme for the poor and near-poor, Yen Bai province successfully built and repaired 3,022 houses, achieving 100% of its set target.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in Hai Duong have collaborated with local authorities and organisations to mobilise financial support, labour, and construction materials for the housing programme.
So far, a total of 1,016 temporary and dilapidated houses across the province have been renovated or replaced, demonstrating the effective involvement of the entire political system and society to bring a better life to disadvantaged residents.
