Quang Tri (VNA) – The World Bank will fund a project to helpthe central province of Quang Tri make its reservoirs safer.
The targeted reservoirs are in the districts of Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Cam Lo,Huong Hoa, Hai Lang and Dong Ha city.
The project will cost more than 10 millionUSD, of which 9.5 million USD will come from the World Bank, the rest beinglocal capital.
It aims to repair and upgrade damagedreservoirs and improve the operation of the reservoirs to protect residents andinfrastructure downstream.
In 2018, the province will complete reportson the safety of local reservoirs, enact socio-environmental policies and producedesigns and projections for the project.
Land clearance, compensation andresettlement will also be completed within the year to serve the project.
According to Ho Xuan Hoe, Vice Director ofthe provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the project willupgrade 14 reservoirs by 2022.
Currently, Quang Tri has 131 reservoirs, providingwater for more than 25,000 hectares of cultivation land, aquaculture, daily useand industry.
Of them 48 are damaged, posing threatsduring rainy season.-VNA
The World Bank (WB) on December 11 released its report “Taking Stock- An Update on Vietnam’s Recent Economic Development”, forecasting the country’s GDP to grow at 6.7 percent this year.
The WB, in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, launched the Reports on the Observance of Standards and Codes (ROSC) in accounting and auditing in a ceremony in Hanoi on December 14.
The World Bank (WB)’s Carbon Finance Unit approved a resolution on supporting the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) programme in central Vietnam in line with the results-based payments at a meeting in Paris on February 1.
The World Bank (WB) wants to further its help for Vietnam in public transport development and drainage planning by 2030 with a vision towards 2050, said Ousmane Dione, WB Country Director in Vietnam.
