Da Nang (VNA)🔥 – A workshop was held in the central city of Da Nang on July 19 toimprove the legal system protecting rare wild animals in Vietnam.

The event wasco-organised by the National Assembly Committee for Judicial Affairs and theWildlife Conservation Society.

Head of the committee Le Thi Nga said Vietnam isblessed with rich biodiversity, both flora and fauna, including many endangeredspecies listed in the World Red Book.

In recent years, the country’s biodiversityresources are on the decline due to the complicated development of poaching,trafficking, trading and storing activities, she said.

Therefore, the Penal Code and the CriminalProcedure Code have specified regulations on crimes, penalties, and proceedingsto handle this crime, she added.

The workshop created a venue for participants todiscuss ways to improve laws on preventing and combating wildlife-relatedcrimes, she said.

According to the NA Committee for JudicialAffairs, the wildlife-related crimes are developing in a complicated way inQuang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Dak Nong, Lam Dong, and Binh Phuoc withcross-border trafficking activities.

Nga asked the People’s Committees of localitiesto pay more attention to the protection of wild animals and build specialpolicies to improve the living standards of people residing near forests toreduce poaching.-VNA

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
