Can Tho (VNA) – A workshop was held in the Mekong Delta city ofCan Tho on November 24 seeking to improve air quality for the city throughstrategic management of air quality.
The event was jointly organised by the municipal People’s Committee, theVietnam Environment Administration (VEA) under the Ministry of NaturalResources and Environment, and the Clean Air Act (CAA).
Tanya Gaurano from the CAA said the through the workshop, local managerialofficials could put forth proper policies and programmes in the field viaupdating relevant information and recognising health, social and economicimpacts posed by air pollution.
It also helps policy makers estimate the level of air pollution so to implementmeasures to reduce emissions from different arenas, she added.
According to the CAA, air pollution in Vietnam is mainly caused by factorysmoke, electricity sources, and traffic activities.

It is anticipated that emissions, including SO2, will increase by over 30percent and dust nearly 20 percent in Can Tho between 2020 and 2025.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Dao Anh Dung said the firstaction plan for the city’s air quality management was announced by the VEA andthe CAA and handed over to the People’s Committee in May 2017.
The plan provides information on the situation of air quality in the city aswell as measures to reduce emissions, he added-VNA
