Work starts on first low-iron quartz powder plant in Vietnam
A joint venture of the Viet Phuong (VPG) Investment Group and Quarzwerke Group of Germany on September 19 began construction of a low-iron sand and quartz powder processing plant in Phong Dien district, the central province of Thua Thien - Hue.

According to Nguyen Van Phuong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee,the Phong Dien white sand area was approved for exploitation in 2008.
With total area of 135 square kilometres in Phong Hoa, Phong Binh, PhongChuong, Phong Thu and Phong Hien communes and Phong Dien town, the zone’s sand reserveis estimated at 127 million cubic meters.
The sand in the area is suitable for processing high-grade glass, optical glassand solar cells, he said.
Covering 7.3 ha in Phong Hien commune, the 21-million-EUR (more than 24.5million USD) project has a designed capacity of 230,000 tonnes of products ayear. It will specialise in producing high quality low-iron sand and quartzpowder.
The plant's products will be provided for domestic manufacturers of super-whiteglass and solar panel glass.
Phuong Minh Hue, General Director of Viet Phuong Group - VPG, said this is the firstplant of its kind in Vietnam.
Páez Malletz,General Director of Quarzwerke Group said that the ground-breaking showed theeffective cooperation between the two firms.
The project will help attract investors that produce solar cells and glassphone screens to invest in the area, he said.-VNA
