The Vietnam women's national volleyball team left on Sept. 13 forChinese Taipei to take part in the Asian Senior Women's VolleyballChampionships which runs on September 15-23.
Vietnam isseeded number eight of the 14 teams competing, which are divided intofour groups for the event, and will meet Australia and defendingchampions Thailand in group B.
Vietnam will firstmeet number one seeds Thailand who recently came from behind to winagainst Cuba in the preliminary round of the Grand Prix last month.
The Thai team also thrashed Argentina in the same tournament 25-23,25-15, 25-14 to be the first Southeast Asian team to qualify for theGrand Prix final.
Vietnam 's second match will be againstAustralia , who they beat in July 20-25, 18-25, 22-25 during the VTVSun Group Cup. Australia competed in the VTV Binh Dien Long An Cupheld in Vietnam in January playing seven matches of which they wontwo, drew one and lost four.
The Vietnamese team will bemissing several key players including injured main attacker Bui Thi Hueand striker Tran Thi Cam Tu who is fulfilling academic commitments.
Chinese coach Qiao Yu Chuan will rely on duo Do Thi Minh and Pham ThiYen who he hopes will find form during the tournament, as there are nosubstitutes for their positions.
