Kon Tum (VNA) – The Women's Union of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum held a conference to review the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the union and its counterpart of Sekong province in Laos over the period of 2019-2024.

Chairwoman of the Kon Tum Women's Union Y Phuong said that at the conference, both sides approved a report reviewing the implementation of the MoU on women affairs from 2019 to 2024 and discussed a draft MoU for the 2024-2029 period, aiming to enhance cooperation.

In the 2019-2024 period, the two sides exchanged experiences in building, consolidating, and developing their respective unions, while mobilising women members to participate in promoting peace and development in border areas. Notably, in July, the Kon Tum Women's Union visited Sekong to hold a conference to share experiences in women affairs, present gifts to poor women and children, and support the development of livelihood models for women with disadvantaged background.

Under the “accompanying border women” programme, the Kon Tum Women's Union has collaborated with relevant agencies to carry out activities that met the needs of women members and the specific circumstances of border communes. With a total fund of approximately 4 billion VND, the unions have developed a number of models to encourage women to join border guards in protecting landmarks, and mineral resources in various border communes, and fight illegal immigration. Models developed by the border guard forces also support needy children in border areas.

Besides, the two sides have maintained 10 clubs for drug and crime prevention and control in border communes, successfully preventing any cases of women and children being trafficked across the border.

At the conference, the two sides pointed to challenges and shortcomings in their collaboration and suggested solutions to improve the effectiveness of their work, thus building a borderline of peace, friendship, and cooperation. They signed the minutes of the meeting, and agreed on the contents of the draft MoU in the 2024-2029 period.

The same day, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Kon Tum and the Youth Union of Sekong also held a conference reviewing the implementation of their MoU in the 2019-2024 period.

They agreed to further strengthen solidar🥃ity, understanding, and ties among youngsters of the two localities, while exchanging experiences, and sharing models in youth affairs and activities.🐽/.
