Website providing database on martyrs debuts this month
A website providing a database on war martyrs and their graves will be launched on December 22, the 73rd founding day of the Vietnam People’s Army, a unit of the Ministry of Information and Communications announced on December 12.

The Vietnam National Institute of Softwareand Digital Content Industry has deployed supercomputers to collate informationon martyrs from the database of the Ministry of National Defence’s policydepartment, significantly reducing time taken to locate documents about martyrsand identify remains.
The institute has coordinated with otherbodies of the Ministry of Information and Communications, such as the Authorityof Information Technology Application, the Department of Information Technologyand the Information Centre to build an information network and a nationaldatabase on the issue.
It has also unified the database of theMinistries of National Defence, and Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs todevelop a website which allows citizens to search for martyrs’ information andreceive information from citizens.
According tolabour minister Dao Ngoc Dung, about 200,000 sets of remains scatteredacross southern provinces, Laos and Cambodia haven’t been collected, whileanother 300,000 sets of remains that have been reburied in martyrs’ cemeterieslack information to make an accurate identification. -VNA
The central province of Thanh Hoa held a ceremony on May 11 to re-bury 21 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts repatriated from Laos.
A solemn commemoration ceremony was held for 16 Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts, who laid down their life in Laos during wartime, at the Hue martyr cemetery in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue on May 16.
Defence Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich and other officers on July 21 paid homage to martyrs in the central province of Quang Tri on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyr Day (July 27).

Supercomputers will be deployed to unify databases of different agencies managing information about war invalids and martyrs, significantly reducing time taken to locate documents or determine the identity of remains.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government.
