Singapore (VNA) – The ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute ofSingapore held the annual 36th round-table webinar themed “Bravingthe Storms: ASEAN in Crisis Mode”, with the support of the Konrad AdenauerStiftung Foundation of Germany on October 12.
In his opening speech, Director of the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak InstituteChoi Shing Kwok said the COVID-19 pandemic has posed unprecedented challengesand disruptions in the region. Regional countries have issued post-pandemicrecovery plans while strengthening connectivity to step up regional recovery inthe future.
Participants at the event discussed ways to promote fairer and moreinclusive economic recovery, and explored the possibility of tapping theCOVID-19 crisis to build a sustainable future.
They also looked into regional political and security landscape suchas Myanmar’s challenges to solidarity and ASEAN’s central role and position inregional order.
The annual event provides a platform for leading experts, scholarsand commentators in the region to consider key issues and challenges to ASEANas a region and an institution.
