WB supports water supply, environmental sanitation in Vietnam
The World Bank (WB) has said it recently approved an extra fund of 119 million USD for the ongoing Urban Water Supply and Wastewater Project in Vietnam.
Hanoi (VNA) – The World Bank (WB) has said it recently approved an e🍌xtra fund of 119 million𝔍 USD for the ongoing Urban Water Supply and Wastewater Project in Vietnam.
Approved by the WB Board of Executive Directors in May 2011, the project includes 14 subprojects across 10 provinces with an average population size of 100,000 in the urban centres.
Most of the additional fund has been earmarked for a wastewater and drainage subproject in the southern province of Binh Duong. The remaining will be used to cover cost overruns due to the appreciation of the US dollar and offer the Ministry of Construction technical support to prepare a new water supply project in the Mekong Delta.
As a result, up to 65,872 households with 450,382 people will have access to clean water, and some 312,050 urban residents will enjoy improved sanitation.
“With this, achievements under the original project will be further consolidated and sustained, and more people in Binh Duong, in southern Vietnam, will enjoy better wastewater and drainage services,” said Achim Fock, the World Bank’s Acting Country Director for Vietnam.-VNA

Under the directive, the PM instructed relevant agencies to regularly inspect, supervise and proactively implement disaster prevention, response and rescue measures in line with their assigned roles and mandates, ensuring readiness, avoiding passivity or delays, and maintaining operational continuity amid ongoing political and administrative restructuring at levels.
According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
The Deposit Return System is seen as a potential instrument for effectively advancing Vietnam’s vision of a circular economy, as outlined in Article 142 of the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection.
