HCMCity (VNA) – A walk for the environment and a tree planting event tookplace in Ho Chi Minh City on June 5 in response to World Environment Day.

Co-organisedby the municipal Union of Friendship Associations (HUFO) and the IndianConsulate General in the city, the activities drew the participation of Indianexpats, HUFO representatives, and local students.

Speakingat opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the HUFO Nguyen Van Manh said the programmeurges people to work together to reduce air pollution.

Italso celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who isconsidered by Indians as the "Father of the Nation", he added, notingthat Gandhi was strongly believed in environmental sustainability and humanresponsibility.

Manhtook the occasion to thank the Indian Consulate General for its collaborationwith the HUFO in organising meaningful cultural, sport and educationalactivities for improved mutual understanding between Vietnamese and Indianpeople.

🐈 Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🌊 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
