Vietnam ranked first among the ASEAN countries for the number of country code top-level domains registered, with 318,812 domain names added by June 30. This information was recently revealed by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC). Some 55,944 new domain names ending in ".vn" were registered in the first six months of this year.
The increase in registrations for this domain name is in line with the national management goal, VNNIC said. Domain names written in Vietnamese hit 1,075,286, with over 34,500 new domain names registered in the first six months of this year. Of those Vietnamese domain names, some 191,240 are in active use, accounting for 17.79 per cent of the total number of registrations.-VNA
The VNNIC reported that all the Vietnamese domain names registered in the first half of this year are free of any sensitive phrases that go against Vietnamese tradition and national security. Eighty-seven agents are allowed to provide internationalised domain names (IDN) in Vietnam , which are managed on the website. The total number of IDNs reported by the end of June was 140,266.-VNA
