VN stresses peaceful, stable environment for future Asia

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam addressed the opening session of Boao Forum in China.
A Vietnamese representative to the 2014 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) AnnualConference has said that the future of Asia and its growth drivers areonly significant when the environment in the region is peaceful, stableand cooperative.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu DucDam was addressing the opening session of the conference in China’ssouthern province of Hainan on April 10. The event brought together1,500 delegates, including leaders from more than 10 countries andrenowned scholars.

He said nations, big orsmall, rich or poor, need a stable environment for development. Everydispute and conflict needs to be solved by peaceful measures incompliance with international law and with sincerity and trust.

Win-win cooperation, mutual respect and trust, andresponsibility-sharing in common issues are indispensable for the regionand the whole world to secure sustainable growth, Dam stressed.

Vietnam is sparing no effort to work together with other nations andpartners in that spirit and towards that goal, he noted.

The Vietnamese official raised the fact that Asia is embarking on amission to grow strongly not only for itself but also for itsincreasingly important part in addressing common issues of human beings.

According to him, Asian economies lookingtowards inclusive and sustainable growth are to suit the common trend inthe world.

To seek a new direction and a newdevelopment model backed by sustainable growth, creativeness is neededand considered, together with technological renovation, as a driver,Deputy PM Dam said.

He elaborated that duringthe process, connectivity among economies and regions should be sped upthrough cooperation frameworks like the Association of Southeast AsianNations (ASEAN) and other free trade agreements.

The 2014 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference is being held withthe theme "Asia's New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers".

The four-day forum is expected to discuss issues related to renovation, creativeness and sustainable development.

Political and security issues, internet security and China-US relations will also be high on the agenda.-VNA
