Visitors flock to Dien Bien Phu Campaign relic sites

Domestic and foreign visitors to the northwestern province of Dien Binh are increasing day by day as the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 -2014) is approaching.

According to theprovince’s statistics, between March 15 and April 15, more than 85,000people, including 2,000 from abroad, visited the Dien Bien Phu Campaignrelic sites such as Hill A1, Dien Bien Phu Victory Statue, and Dien BienPhu Victory Showroom.

Most of them were war veterans,including those who directly involved in the battle, and students whowish to learn more about the values of the victory.

To serveincreasing flows of arrivals on this occasion, the province’s tourismsector has invited over 30 presenters from local agencies in addition tothe existing staff at the sites while providing training courses forthe new ones.

Preparations for the celebration were examined byDeputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Thanh Cung, who isdeputy head of the organising committee for the national-levelcelebration, on April 18.
Dien Bien Phu is the place witnessinga fierce battle ending with Vietnam ’s victory that put an end to theFrench colonial rule in Vietnam in 1954.

The number of visitors to Dien Bien province has been on the rise,from 178,000 in 2004 to 380,000 in 2013. While only 10,000 foreigntourists came to the province in 2004, the figure last year reached66,000.

With a host of activitiesplanned to mark the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, theprovince hopes to welcome 440,000 visitors, including 75,000 foreignersthis year.

Alongside the Dien Bien Phurelic site, Dien Bien is also home to several famous sightseeing spotssuch as Muong Nhe primitive jungle, Hua Pe and U Va hot springs, and thePa Khoang and Huoi Pa lakes.-VNA
