Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign cancelled over coronavirus impact

Malaysia has cancelled the ongoing Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, Malaysian Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Nancy Shukri said on March 18 evening.

– Malaysia has cancelled the ongoing VisitMalaysia 2020 campaign in light of the COVID-19 outbreak,Malaysian Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Nancy Shukri said on March 18evening.

She also announced a freeze on all over-the-counter and online services of the ministry's tourism licensing division.

All of those of the Malaysia Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture concerningtourism licensing such as tour guides, tour drivers, tourism training institutesand the registration of tourism accommodation premises, rated spa andfoot massage centres have to follow the decision from March 18- 31.

All guests must remain in their rooms during the period, but are allowedto order food through room service, she said.

The decision was made after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced a national lockdown from March18-31 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Earlier,the country had set a target of welcoming 30 million foreign tourist arrivalsand earning 100 billion RM (24 billion USD) from Visit Malaysia 2020./.
