Vinh Long works to increase mango export to US

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the southern province of Vinh Long is joining hands with the Green Path Vietnam Trading and Import-Export Company to increase mango export to the US.

Vinh Long (VNA) – TheDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development of the southern province ofVinh Long is joining hands with the Green Path Vietnam Trading and Import-ExportCompany to increase mango export to the US.

A ceremony to ink the cooperation agreementwas held in the province on February 27.

Accordingly, Green Path will providetechnical support and disseminate requirements by importers to local farmers,helping them adapt to more efficient farming practices.

Vinh Long province is home to nearly 44,500ha of fruit-growing areas, yielding more than 440,900 tonnes per year. Of thenumber, about 4,900 ha of mango, or 11 percent of total orchard areas, arebeing cultivated across the districts of Vung Liem, Mang Thit and Tam Binh.

The province has grown more than 93 ha of mangounder VietGap standards while granting codes for management and traceabilityfor mango, rambutan, longan and pomelo.

Deputy Director of the provincialDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Van Liem said technicalbarriers remain the biggest challenge to Vietnam’s agricultural production.That mango entering such demanding markets as the US is a good sign for theprovince’s farm produce, he noted.

The official also advised local farmers toensure safety, reputation and sustainability, as well as to follow productionmethods agreed with businesses.-VNA
