Viettel listed among world’s top 500 most valuable brands

The military-run telecom provider Viettel, whose brand value grew by 35.8 percent over last year to more than 4.3 billion USD, was honoured as one of the 500 most valuable brands in the world 2019.

Hanoi (VNA) - The military-run telecom provider Viettel, whosebrand value grew by 35.8 percent over last year to more than 4.3 billion USD,was honoured as one of the 500 most valuable brands in the world 2019.

The list released by Brand Finance - a UK-based brand evaluation company on January22 showed the Vietnamese telecom brand took 478th position, its first time onthe list.

Vietnam’s leading telecom provider was highly valued due to its presence in 10foreign markets.

The list this year featured big names in different industries oftelecommunications, technology, automobile and petroleum such as Amazon, Apple,Google, Mercedes-Benz, Shell and Telstra.

Of the total 5,000 firms reviewed by Brand Value, there were some 500 ones inSoutheast Asia. Only eight brands in the ASEAN region were listed in theranking in telecommunications, petroleum and banking.

Brand value was considered as the economic benefits a business achieves afterofficially coming into operation.

Brand Finance last month also announced the list of top 50 most valuable brandsin Vietnam 2018.

Viettel was the leading brand in the country with value of more than 3.1billion USD, posting 23.7 percent year-on-year increase and equal to the totalvalue of the second and third placed firms on the list.

Last year, a successful year for Viettel as revenue from its overseas marketgrew by 20 percent. The number of its subscribers was up 70 percent from theprevious year, bringing 240 million USD in revenue to Vietnam, increasing 3 percentfrom 2017.
