Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s Nguyen VanPhuong secured a place in the third round of the Copa Del Café Junior TennisTournament in Costa Rica on January 17.
16-year-old Phuong crushed 18-year-oldSebastian Welch of Chile 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the men’s singles.
Phuong is now junior world No 193, whileWelch is junior world No 168.
In the next round, Phuong will face ZynkTyler of the US, who is junior world No 83 and No 6 seed.

Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Van Phuong won the final match in the men’s singles at the U18 Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit – BECAMEX Cup 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City on July 22.

The U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28, while athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
