Vietnam’s forestry export up 20 percent in 2021

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s forestry exportvalue this year is estimated at 15.87 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 20 percent,an official has said.

Of the number, the export revenue of wood and woodproducts reached 14.72 billion USD, and that of non-timber forestry products was 1.15billion USD, said Bui Chinh Nghia, deputy head of the Vietnam Administration ofForestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The sector accounted for over 30 percent of thecountry’s total agro-forestry-fishery export revenue, 4.7 percent of the country’saccumulative export value and was among the seven items with export revenueexceeding 10 billion USD.

Notably, it significantly contributed to the trade surplusof the agro-foresry-fishery sector.

To ensure materials for processing, domestic firmsalso imported wood and wood products worth around 2.93 billion USD, up 14.2 percentfrom the corresponding time last year.

Nghia said the sector is expected to face moredifficulties in 2022 due to the complexity of the COVID-19 pandemic. Giventhis, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry will continue to support domesticenterprises to overcome the challenges, thus ensuring the sector’s growth./.
