Vietnam’s first public university given 4 stars under QS rankings

HCM City (VNA) –
Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU)in Ho Chi Minh City received a four-star ranking by the UK-based QS StarsUniversity Rating System, as announced on September 4 as part of the opening ceremonyfor the new 2018-2019 school year.

Established in 1997, the facility is a public establishmentoperated under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL). It is thefirst university in Vietnam to receive such ranking, which is valid from 2018 throughto 2021.

The TDTU is rated the maximum five stars in the categoriesof teaching (based on student feedback via national surveys, further study rate,and student faculty ratio), internationalisation (proportion of internationalstudents and staff), facilities, and inclusiveness (covering accessibility,scholarships and bursaries, gender equality, and low-income outreach).

The university obtained four stars in the employabilitycategory, which has been based on surveys of employers, graduate employmentrates, and career service support.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of the VGCL Bui VanCuong praised the TDTU’s achievements and pledged to create the best possible conditionsfor the university to develop into an exemplary model in Vietnam.

TDTU President Le Vinh Danh introduced a number of themilestones the facility has recorded in over 20 years of its development.

He said the university was ranked among the top 250sustainable establishments voted by the UI Greenmetric World UniversityRankings last year, as well as taking the lead in the number of scientificresults published in international journals according to the ClarivateAnalytics’ Web of Science.

In July 2018, the High Council for Evaluation of Researchand Higher Education (HCERES) recognised the TDTU as being compliant withFrench and European standards for universities. This accreditation has beengranted for a five-year term, from July 2018 to July 2023. –VNA
