Vietnam’s fertiliser imports surge in five months

Vietnam spent 547 million USD on importing 2.01 million tonnes of fertiliser in the first five months of this year, up nearly 32 percent in volume and 24 percent in value from 2016.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam spent 547 million USD on importing 2.01 million tonnesof fertiliser in the first five months of this year, up nearly 32 percent involume and 24 percent in value compared to the same period last year, Lao Dong(Labour) newspaper reported.

The country imported427,000 tonnes of fertiliser, worth 119 million USD in May alone.

The strongest increase was seen in urea imports,up 22 percent in volume and 32 percent in value from 2016 to reach 230,000tonnes and 60 million USD.

Vietnammainly imported fertiliser from China, Russia and Indonesia.

In 2016, Vietnam imported 4.16 million tonnes offertiliser, valued at 1.1 billion USD, down nearly 8 percent in volume and 22percent in value compared to 2015.

Fertiliser management is under the control oftwo ministries, with the Ministry of Industry and Trade managing inorganicfertiliser and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development managingorganic fertiliser.-VNA
