Hanoi (VNA) - As Vietnam is looking to boost high-tech agriculture, firmsare looking for modern technologies in the world to apply in farmingproduction.

Ministerof Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that the bottleneckof the agriculture sector was technology. He said his ministry was promotingconnections with leading farming technology companies from Switzerland, theNetherlands and Israel as well as other countries with a developed agriculturesector to provide opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural firms to look forappropriate technologies.

ManyVietnamese firms are now aware of that they should not import outdatedmachinery and technologies but look for advanced technologies. However, themost difficult thing is how to find the appropriate technologies.

LuongMinh Tung, Chairman of Yen Phu Beef and Dairy Cattle Breading Joint StockCompany in northern Ninh Binh province, said that his company had a worry abouthow to preserve meat.

Inmany countries, beef-preserving technologies were very good which could ensuremeat quality up to three months, Tung said, adding that his company was lookingfor a partner with such technology.

NguyenVan Linh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province, said thathis province which was known for lychee as a specialty and was promoting exportof this type of fruit, expected to find a suitable preservation technology.

Thelychee harvest lasted only one month, inserting large pressure on consumption.Thus, lychee preservation technology was very important.

Anumber of companies from Israel, the Netherlands, and Switzerland were alsolooking for providing technologies and cooperating high-tech agriculturalproduction in Vietnam recently.

Recently,more than 30 Israeli companies visited Vietnam to look for co-operationopportunities.

VuKien Trung, general director of Khang Thinh Irrigation Technology JSC, soleagent of Israel-based Netafim in Vietnam, was quoted by the Dau Tu (Investment)newspaper that drip irrigation technology was initially completely strange to Vietnam’sagricultural production but now gaining more popularity.

Thenewspaper quoted Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Missionto the UN and other international organisations, as saying that many Swisscorporations wanted to co-operate with Vietnamese firms in agriculturalproduction, especially in processing.

Swisscompanies were especially willing to study and develop appropriate technologiesfor Vietnam and co-operate in technology transfer, according to Dung.

Theagriculture ministries of Vietnam and the Netherlands were also looking toconnect firms from both sides with the aim of promoting high-tech agriculturalproduction.-VNA
