Vietnamese universities listed in Asian university rankings
Three Vietnamese universities were listed in the 2014 Quacquarelli Symond (QS) rankings for leading universities in Asia, according to Nguyen Huu Duc, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi.

The Hanoi-based VNU was named in the QS 161-170 rank, making great strides compared to its 201-250 place in 2012.
The Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City was ranked amongthe top 191-200 Asian universities while the Hanoi University of Scienceand Technology belonged to the 251-300 rank.
The rankings werebased on major criteria, including evaluations of scholars andrecruiters; the student/teacher ratio ; the number of articlespublished on Scopus, a bibliographic database containing abstracts andcitations for academic journal articles ; and the number of foreignlecturers and students working at the campus, Duc explained.
Although the number of scientists working at the country’s highereducation system and their internationally-recognised achievements hasso far been modest, the prestige of domestic universities has beengreatly improved, according to Asian scholars.
The QS AsianUniversity Rankings announced top three leading universities in Asiaas the National University of Singapore, the Republic of Korea’sAdvanced Institute of Science and Technology and the University of HongKong.-VNA
