Nguyen Thi Anh Vien shone at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Age GroupsSwimming Championship which wrapped up in Brunei last week, takinghome 11 gold and two silver medals and establishing a new SEA Gamesrecord in the women’s 200m backstroke.
Recently returned from a short training course in the US , the 17-year-old swimmer swam in 13 events of the 16-18 age group.
Shebroke seven championship records including 200m freestyle with resultsof 2:03.52, 200m backstroke within 2:14.95, 400m mixed at 4:52.83, 400mfreestyle at 4:16.46, 100m backstroke of 1:03.3, 200m mixed at 2: 17.90,and 50m freestyle within 27.02.
Especially, Vien setnew SEA Games record in the women’s 200m backstroke event when clockingat 2:14.95, breaking Indonesian Yessy Yosaputra’s 2011 SEA Games recordof 2:15.73.
Thanks to her impressive performance, the Vietnamteam finished fourth in the medals table, behind Singapore ,Thailand and Malaysia.
Vien will next take part in thefourth Asian indoor & Martial Arts Games in Inchoen, the Republic ofKorea, from June 29 to July 6.
