Vietnamese studies contributes to Vietnam- Russia friendship: forum

Moscow (VNA) – The Vietnamese language teaching and Vietnamesestudies have made significant contributions to the traditional friendshipbetween Vietnam and Russia, heard a forum held by the Vietnamese Embassy inRussia on March 12.

The event kicked off a series of activities initiated and hosted by the embassyduring the Vietnam Year in Russia 2019. It drew the participation of delegatesfrom the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, thepress, representatives from leading universities in Moscow, Saint-Petersburgand Vladivostok, Vietnamese studies experts, Vietnamese language lecturers, andstudents.

In his remarks at the forum, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manhhighlighted that language and culture are billed as important channels ofpeople’s diplomacy to promote the nation’s image and prestige in foreigncountries.

He laid stress on the considerable potential of the Vietnamese studies inRussia especially when the two nations are working to deepen theircomprehensive strategic partnership.

Also, the ambassador expressed his hope that the forum will create a playgroundfor all people who have chosen Vietnamese studies as their current and futurecareer.

Roman Nilov, a Russian diplomat who studied Vietnamese history at SaintPetersburg State University, spoke highly of the organisation of the forum,saying that it is practical to bolster the bilateral relations.

Ten scientific papers were delivered at the forum, giving a deeper insight intothe research and teaching of Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies inRussia, demands for human resources in the sector, and measures to improve theVietnamese teaching and learning, among others.

Participantsparticularly pointed to the need to reform the curricula and means of teachingwhich have been used since the time of the Soviet Union.

According to Professor Aleksander Sokolovskyi from the Far Eastern FederalUniversity, there are various job opportunities for Vietnamese languagestudents in large cities that have tourism and trade ties with Vietnam or havetwinning relations with Vietnamese partners like Vladivostok.

He also hailed the sound cooperation between Vietnamese and Russianuniversities which helps increase student exchanges and better teaching andlearning quality.

Other participants at the event said that the Vietnamese Embassy plays acentral role in promoting Vietnamese studies in the Russia.

The Embassy committed to doing its utmost to expand bilateral cooperation invarious fields, including education and science.

Ambassador Manh believed that the Russian researchers will make furthercontributions to tightening the friendship and mutual understanding between thetwo countries.-VNA
