Vietnamese students win high prizes at Int’l Junior Science Olympiad

All the Vietnamese contestants bagged prizes at the 15th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) held in Botswana from December 2-10. ​

Hanoi (VNA) – All the Vietnamese contestantsbagged prizes at the 15th International Junior Science Olympiad(IJSO) held in Botswana from December 2-10.   

According to the Hanoi municipal Department ofEducation and Training, Nguyen Manh Quan, Vu Quynh Chi, Nguyen Tran Mai Phuongand Nguyen Le Thao Anh each brought home a gold medal. Tran Dinh Quan won twosilvers while another silver was earned by La Trieu Duong.

All of them are 10th graders of the HanoiAmsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The group of Anh, Chi and Duong also secured a goldmedal in the practice category.

With the achievements, the Vietnamese team claimed abronze medal in the Olympiad.

IJSO is a competition in science for students whoare 15 years old or younger. It aims to promote interest in science amongschool students, exposing them to problem solving, critical thinking andexperimentation.

IJSO is held in the first week of December of everyyear, in different countries. Currently around 50 member countries participateevery year.

The academic competitions of the IJSO includechallenging tests in topics of science, both as theory questions and practicetasks. The tests are designed to address students' understanding of concepts,and their ability to apply concepts to the situations described in the tests.

An important aim of the Olympiads is for youngpeople to experience different cultures and to bring about interactions betweenstudents from across the world. The Olympiads thus have a potential to promote globalpeace and understanding.

Themed “Discovery,Innovation and Environment”, this year’s event attracted the participationof 276 students from 44 countries and territories worldwide.-VNA
