Vietnamese prodigy wins music award in Thailand

Ten year old violinist Cao Hoang Linh from Hanoi has won first prize in the Junior B category at the International Music Competition held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Hanoi (VNA) - Ten year oldviolinist Cao Hoang Linh from Hanoi has won first prize in the Junior Bcategory at the International Music Competition held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The annual event brought together dozens ofcontestants from many countries and territories, including Canada, Britain,Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The jury includedprestigious artists from the US, Italy, Argentina, Poland, Israel, and Japan.

Linh was born in a non-musical family, butall of them love the arts. His grandfather, translator Ong Van Tung, haswritten nine novels, 60 short stories and has won the State Prize forLiterature and Arts. He has translated 50 literature works from Chinese intoVietnamese.

Linh is now studying fourth-year violin atthe Vietnam Music Academy under the guidance of lecturer Do Xuan Thang.

Although he is only 10, he has receivedscholarships to join the International Music Session camp to the US for twosucceeding years. He has also received a scholarship titled “Vietnam’sClassical Music” involving a trans-national tour in August this year.

At the Thai event, which was held betweenNovember 12 and 18, Linh was commended for his “genius".

Linh and his parents were excited at thepraise.

Linh has been invited by Argentinean jurymember, artist Eduardo Delgado, to join a music camp in Italy next summer.-VNA
