Vietnamese PM, Chilean President discuss ways to foster bilateral ties

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held phone talks withChilean President Sebastian Piñera onMarch 24 to discuss orientations and specific measures to enhance the Vietnam-Chilecomprehensive partnership as the two nations are celebrating the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties (March 25, 1971-2021).
PM Phuc said that the bilateral relations have enjoyedstrong development steps after 50 years, affirming that Vietnam hopes tocontinue deepening the relationship between the two countries, especially ineconomy, trade and investment.
President Piñerasaid Chile attaches importance to its traditional relationship with Vietnam,and appreciated the Vietnamese Government’s efforts to cope with the COVID-19pandemic and maintain economic growth.
The two leaders agreed on several measures to intensify the traditionalfriendship and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Chile in thecoming time, including maintaining the regular exchange of high-leveldelegations, carrying out cooperative mechanisms effectively and frequently,and boosting multilateral and inter-regional trade cooperation frameworks inthe context of the global economy and trade seriously affected by the pandemic.
They reached consensus on strengthening connectivity betweenministries, sectors, localities and enterprises of both nations to bring intofull play opportunities brought in by the Vietnam-Chile Free Trade Agreement,which came into effect in January 2014, and work to implement the Comprehensiveand Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) after Chile completesits approval process.
Both leaders consented to coordinate closely in carrying outactivities to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomaticties in 2021, as well as cooperating with and supporting each other atinternational organisations and multilateral forums, thus helping to intensifythe relationship between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance as well as to ensure peace,stability, cooperation and development in the two regions./.
Chile established diplomatic relations with Vietnam on March 25, 1971, becoming the first South American country to set up diplomatic ties with the Southeast Asian nation. Over the past 50 years, although geographically far apart, Vietnam and Chile have developed a good traditional friendship and cooperation, being comprehensive partners in many fields.
Vietnam and Chile - the first Southern American nation to set up diplomatic ties with Vietnam - have nurtured and preserved their sound cooperative relations and traditional friendship as well as comprehensive development partnership over the past five decades.
Vietnam and Chile established diplomatic relations on March 25, 1971. Over the past five decades, the Vietnam-Chile comprehensive partnership has developed positively in all fields, especially in politics and economy-trade.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
