Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese player Nguyen Hai Dang wonin the boys’ singles category of the Cyprus Junior International BadmintonTournament on April 16.

Dang, World No 38, defeated top seed Christo Popov of France,World No 12, 2-0 (21-9, 21-13) in the final to take home the title.

Earlier, he defeated arch rivals Dennis Koppen of theNetherlands, World No 25, and Scotland’s Christopher Gimbley, World No 19, toreach the final.

Another Vietnamese player, Vu Thi Anh Thu, was the runner-upin the girls’ singles category after losing to Purva Barve of India 0-2 (13-21,9-21) in the final match.

Thu is World No 49, while Barve is No 19.

In the semi-final, she lost to Nazlican Inci of Turkey.

Both Dang and Thu have earned a berth in Youth Olympics 2018,which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.-VNA

🗹 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee
