Vietnamese Party, UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group hold first dialogue

Hanoi (VNA) – The first dialogue between the Communist Party ofVietnam (CPV) and the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) of the UK was heldvia video conference on October 1 with the theme of “cooperation in greeneconomic development post-COVID-19”.

The event wasco-chaired by Hoang Binh Quan, member of the CPV Central Committee and head ofits Commission for External Relations, and MP Wayne David, APPG Chair.

In his openingremarks, Quan stressed that the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership is developingin an active and substantial manner, with political trust enhanced throughexchange and cooperation mechanisms and high-level meetings.

Vietnam treasures andhopes to deepen its strategic partnership with the UK to ensure the continuityand avoid any interruption in bilateral cooperation after the UK leaves theEuropean Union, he said.

David spoke highly ofsubstantial progresses in bilateral relations, affirming that the UK attachesimportance to Vietnam in its strategy to boost relations with ASEAN, which isreflected through the participation in such mechanisms as the East Asia Summitand the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus.

He expressed his hopethat Vietnam continues maintaining its economic and trade ties with the US, andcreating favourable conditions for UK investors. He said he believes in growthpotential of cooperation in economics, trade and green energy between the twocountries.

Participants at thedialogue exchanged opinions on the situation and prospects for cooperation ineconomics-trade in general and green energy in particular, as well as measuresto boost bilateral collaboration in these fields.

They said the twosides hold many opportunities to coordinate and promote cooperation atmultilateral forums, especially when Vietnam is the Chair of ASEAN in 2020 anda non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure andthe UK is a permanent member of the UNSC./.
