Vietnamese, Lao public security deputy ministers hold talks

Ngoc said he is delighted to hold talks with the Lao Ministry of Public Security onthe occasion of his attendance at the eighth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on DrugMatters in Vientiane. The two sides took the occasion to review bilateral cooperation in the fight against transnational crimes,especially drug and cyber crimes. TheLao Ministry of Public Security has achieved positive results in the nationalanti-drug agenda that has been praised by the Lao Party and Government. The Lao side acknowledged the valuable and effective supportof the Vietnamese counterpart in this field. Inline with the 2023 cooperation plan and the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding ondrug prevention and control between the two ministries, they have promoted the sharing of information on crime, especially drug and transnational crime, and coordinated to hunt wanted criminals who have fled to the othercountry. TheVietnamese Ministry of Public Security has also built and handed over 224 police headquarters to the Lao side to serve the fight against crime, particularly drug crime in areas along the two countries' shared border. The construction of the Lao People's Public SecurityPolitical Academy has been basically completed on time for the new academic year which starts in September.
Bothsides agreed to continue facilitating visits by their leaders, promptlyaddress arising issues and prevent hostile forces and criminal activities from undermine the security and order of both countries.
Theypledged to seriously carry out signed agreements, step up the fight against transnationaཧlcrimes, particularly drug and human trafficking; and work together to preventthird-party organ﷽isations and individuals from using one country's territory toharm the interests, security and stability of the other country.
Hostand guest promised to expedite the implementation of the high-level agreementon border issues, enhance coordination in patrolling, controlling andpreventing illegal entry and exit across the border, especially through unofficialroutes. They will effectively implement international conventions andagreements of which both countries are members, and step up negotiations towardsthe signing of legal documents.
At thesame time, they will work closely together to ensure absolute security andsafety for visits of the two countries' high-level Party and State leaders as well as important events of both countries and protect keyprojects and construction works./.
Vietnamese Minister of Public Security General To Lam has suggested his ministry and its Lao counterpart step up information exchange, and coordinate in preventing impacts of non-traditional security threats on their cooperation.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
