Vietnamese, Lao provinces complete border demarcation efforts

Representatives from the authorities in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Nam and the Lao province of Sekong held a ceremony in Tam Ky city on May 28 to mark the completion of the project to increase and upgrade their border markers.

The Vietnam-Lao border between Quang Nam and Sekong is 142 km long.

In May 2008, the two countries started increasing and upgradingborder markers along the edge of their respective territories in orderto make the marker system more accurate and durable in the long term.

Sixty markers and seven stakes were added along the border section between Quang Nam and Sekong.

Provincial officials spoke highly of the achievement, a result of thesolidarity between the two countries’ relevant agencies, forces andpeople.

They said both sides will continue theircommunication efforts to raise public awareness, thus contributing topeace, stability and development cooperation in border communities aswell as bilateral relations.

On this occasion,Quang Nam and Sekong authorities presented certificates of merit togroups and individuals for their outstanding efforts in increasing andupgrading the border markers.-VNA
