Vietnamese, Lao national universities foster exchanges

The Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) and the National University of Laos signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in Vientiane on January 26.

Vientiane (VNA) – The VietnamNational University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) and the National University ofLaos signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in Vientiane onJanuary 26.

According to the pact, the twoestablishments will exchange lecturers, post-graduates, students, andscientific publications, and jointly organise seminars, conferences, and talkson specialized themes.

The Vietnamese university will offerscholarships to teachers and students at the Lao school, and help enhance theresearching capacity of Lao researchers and lecturers, particularly in thefield of information and technology.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VNUHCMPresident Huynh Thanh Dat said the Lao university is among the firstuniversities in Southeast Asia to set up partnership with the VNUHCM, with thesides signing their first MoU in January 1998.

The two universities have worked togetherto organise visits, joint studies, student exchanges, and seminars, he said,noting that the latest MoU proved that they will continue their collaborationfor quality tertiary education in Southeast Asia.

Praising Ho Chi Minh City’s support towardLaos’ education sector to date, Lao Deputy Minister of Education and SportsBoualane Siripanya stated that the freshly signed MoU will contribute tobilateral cooperation and Laos’ human resources development.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City PartyCommittee Nguyen Thien Nhan said the local authorities back collaborationbetween the two universities with expectation that the ties will produce moreeffective outcomes.-VNA
