Da Nang (VNA) – Aconference of Vietnamese and Japanese local leaders took place in the centralcity of Da Nang on January 13.

The event drew leaders fromDa Nang city and the provinces of Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Can Tho, Ben Tre, BinhDinh, Binh Thuan, Dak Lak, Kien Giang, Khanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, QuangNinh, Thua Thien-Hue, Tra Vinh, Ninh Thuan, Ha Tinh, Bac Lieu.

On the Japanese side wereGovernors and Vice Governors of the prefectures of Nara, Yamagata, Shiga,Niigata, Yamanashi, Hokkaido, Akita, and representatives from the JapanInternational Cooperation Agency and the Japan External Trade Organisation.

Deputy Foreign Minister LeHoai Trung highlighted the significance of the visit by Secretary General ofthe Liberal Democratic Party of Japan andChairman of the Japan – Vietnam FriendshipParliamentary Alliance Nikai Toshihiro, saying that it is ahallmark in Vietnam – Japan ties.

He spoke highly of thecomprehensive and effective development of the Vietnam – Japan extensivestrategic partnership. Japan remained Vietnam’s top economic partner.

According to him, thepotential of cooperation between the two countries’ localities remains huge,especially in trade, investment, industry, high-tech agriculture, humanresources, cultural and people-to-people exchange, and tourism.

The Vietnamese ForeignMinistry will continue creating favourable conditions for the two countries’localities to expand ties, Trung said.

Co-chairing the event,Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho said Japaneselocalities have provided effective support for Da Nang’s economic developmentover the past years.

He asked the Japanese embassyas well as economic and trade promotion agencies to continue promoting the locality-to-localitycooperation mechanism.

Japanese Ambassador toVietnam Umeda Kunio said Vietnamese and Japanese localities signed about 70cooperation agreements, nearly 50 of them inked in the past five years.

Participants introduced thestrengths and potential of each locality as well as discussed cooperationopportunities in the fields of human resources, labour, tourism,people-to-people exchange and agriculture.

On the sidelines of theevent, they also held separate meetings to seek partners./.
