At the opening event of the fair on April 12, German ChancellorAngela Merkel urged Germany and Europe to boost industrial manufacturingand technological advancement.

She alsotouched on bilateral trade between Germany and its partner in thisyear’s trade fair, India, saying it can be improved upon even thoughGermany is already India’s largest European trading partner.

For his part, visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called formore foreign direct investment from Germany and the entire EuropeanUnion, pledging that the South Asia nation will create a stable economicenvironment with preferential policies for investors in line withsimplified administration procedures and tax reforms.

The 68th Hannover Messe focuses on the five core areas ofindustrial automation and information technology, energy andenvironmental engineering, power transmission and control, industrialsubcontracting and production engineering, and research and development.

Around 213,000 visitors are expected to turn out for the industrial event, which runs through April 17.-VNA
