New Delhi (VNA) - Nine Vietnamese feature fil𝄹ms are being screened in New Delhi, India during a Vietnamese Film Festival that kicked off on May 9.
The fortnight-long event is part of activities to mark the 41st anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and national reunification (April 30) and the upcoming 126th birthday anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19).
The event was organised by the Cinema Department in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Indian International Centre (IIC).
The films include “Thuong nho dong que” (Nostalgia for the countryside), “Dung dot” (Don’t burn), and “Bao gio cho den thang Muoi” (When will October come) by Dang Nhat Minh; “Con chim vanh khuyen” (Passerine bird) by Nguyen Van Thong; “Em be Ha Noi” (Hanoi little girl) by Hai Ninh; Nhung dua con cua lang (Children of the village) by Nguyen Duc Viet.
Three more recent films being screened include Nha Tien Tri (The Prophet) by Vuong Duc; “Chuyen cua Pao” (Pao’s story) by Quang Hai and “Toi thay hoa vang tren co xanh” (Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass) by Victor Vu.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh spoke highly of cooperation between Vietnam and India.
He expressed his hope that the festival will open up opportunities for the two nations to further their cooperation in film production.
Deputy Director of the Cinema Department Le Hong Chuong briefed participants on Vietnamese cinematography with its first product entitled “Canh dong ma” (the Ghost Field) in 1938.
The film week aims to introduce to the beauty of Vietnam’s landscapes, people and culture, Chuong said.
It is also expected to help foster cooperation between the two nations in film production, publication and training, he added.
ICCR Director General Rajasekhar highlighted the similarity between the people of the two nations, saying that Indian people will gain an insight into Vietnamese people through the films.
Vietnamese cuisine will also be introduced to Indian friends on May 13 as part of the festival.-VNA
