Vietnamese designs win Asian architecture awards

Two designs by Ho Chi Minh City-based company Tropical Space won awards at the Architects Regional Council Asia (Arcasia) Awards for Architecture 2018 in Tokyo last week.

Quang Nam (VNA) -Two designs by Ho Chi Minh City-based company Tropical Space won awards at theArchitects Regional Council Asia (Arcasia) Awards for Architecture 2018 inTokyo last week.

The company announced the awardsin a statement on September 17, saying the two designs were among a list of 26Vietnamese designs honoured by the past awards.

Long Thanh House in Dong Naiprovince was given an honourable mention in the single family residentialproject category, while Terra Cotta Studio in Quang Nam province won goldin the category of sustainability. The two buildings used mainly brick andenvironmentally friendly materials.

Among the laureates, Thailand’sJunsekino Architect and Design took home both the gold medal and the Buildingof the Year Award among for exemplary works of architecture.

Architects from Thailand baggedsix awards, while their counterparts from Singapore won one.

ARCASIA honoured brilliant young architects from the ASEAN region with severaldistinguished awards this year.

Architects Nguyen Hai Long and TranThi Ngu Ngon designed the two houses.

The Terra Cotta Studio, three storeysof workspace designed for a local potter in Dien Phuong commune, Quang Nam province,was built from baked bricks and wood. The first storey has a concrete floor. Thespace is also used to display the potter’s ceramic products.

The building also won the Wienerberger BrickAward for excellent brick architecture in the “Working Together” category. Theceremony was held in Vienna, Austria, in May 2018. The studio stood out as theonly Asian-designed building among the predominantly European winners.-VNA
