Vietnamese cultural festival opens in Australia

The Vietnamese Cultural Festival 2014 (Vietfest 2014) took place at the Australia National University (ANU) in Canberra October 10, drawing the participation of around 1,000 overseas Vietnamese and foreign students.
The Vietnamese Cultural Festival 2014 (Vietfest 2014) took place atthe Australia National University (ANU) in Canberra October 10,drawing the participation of around 1,000 overseas Vietnamese andforeign students.

The event, jointly held by ACT VietnameseOverseas Students Association (ACTVOSA) and the Association ofVietnamese Students at the ANU, saw the presence of VietnameseAmbassador to Australia Luong Thanh Nghi.

The festival, thethird of its kind, aimed to introduce and promote the special culturalidentities of Vietnam to people in the host country andinternational friends. It also offered an opportunity for overseasVietnamese students to show their love towards the homeland.

Participantsat the event enjoyed quan ho (love duet) performances, traditionaldances with bamboo and an ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress)show. They were also interested in Vietnamese traditional dishes andhandicrafts.

Photos on the landscapes and people of Vietnam were also on display at the event.

On this occasion, Ambassador Nghi granted certificates of merit to theorganisers in recognition for their contributions to maintaining andpopularising the nation’s culture as well as connecting the Vietnamesecommunity overseas.-VNA

ꩵ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
