Fifteen Vietnamese businesses on November 8 were honoured at the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards for their exemplary practices for gender equality.

Hanoi (VNA) – Fifteen Vietnamese businesses on November 8 werehonoured at the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards for theirexemplary practices for gender equality.
This is the third year the award has been held in Vietnam bythe UN Women and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneur Council, with support from the Australian Government – which has for years assisted genderequality-related activities in Vietnam and UN Women’s activities.
It aims to recognise companies that are taking action ongender equality aligned to the WEPs and to encourage more companies to takeaction by joining the WEPs.
The award has seven categories: Leadership commitment, youthleadership, gender-inclusive workplace, gender-responsive marketplace, Communityengagement and partnerships, transparency and reporting, and small- andmedium-sized enterprises joining the WEPs.
Elisa Fernandez Saenz, Country Representative of UN WomenVietnam, expressed her belief that the award will inspire more companies toapply policies and practices promoting gender equality.

At the awarding ceremony, UN Women and the AustralianEmbassy in Vietnam co-organised a workshop on creating equal marketopportunities by advancing gender responsive procurement.
The function also saw a new cooperation programme named “WERISE Together” introduced.
The programme, funded by the Australian Government throughthe Mekong-Australia Partnership, aims to boost gender-responsive procurement inVietnam./.
Vietnam has conducted numerous activities to respond to the International Day of the Girl Child 2022 (October 11), which is themed “Our time is now-our rights, our future”.
Vietnam proposed perfecting national and international legal systems to create a legal corridor to promote gender equality at a plenary session of the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU 145).
When it comes to women in political decision-making, Vietnam has in place an adequate legal framework to ensure gender equality in political and public life.
Despite the various improvements in the promotion of gender quality and women empowerment, much still remains for Vietnam to do to ease gender prejudice and enhance public awareness on women’s role, according to experts.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
