Jakarta (VNA) – Four Vietnamese citizens on board Papua New Guinea’sAir Niugini plane, that overshot the runway in Micronesia on September 28, havebeen confirmed as safe and sound.
On October 1, passengers Nguyen Van Tuan and Hoang Ngoc Linh left Papua NewGuinea and return to Vietnam. Meanwhile, authorities are working to arrangeflights for Luu Dinh Nga and Phan Van Lam so that they can come home as soon aspossible.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia had requested that Air Niugini providesufficient healthcare, medicine, food, and accommodation for the Vietnamesenationals.
They also joined hands with the Department of Consular Affairs under theVietnamese Foreign Ministry and relevant authorities in the host nation tocomplete necessary procedures to promptly bring the citizens home.
Air Niugini’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft P2-PXE landed short of the runway, insteadhitting a lagoon on September 28 in Chuuk, Micronesia.
Early reports indicate that there was very poor visibility at the time due tobad weather, causing the aircraft to rest in the water 145m from the runway,Air Niugini, the national flag carrier of Papua New Guinea, said in a pressstatement.
Air Niugini had previously announced that one person was missing in the planeincident. However, more recently it updates that all 47 passengers and crewwere now safe. –VNA
