Vietnamese archaeological treasures continue tour of Germany

Nearly 400 archaeological treasures from Vietnam are being displayed at the Reiss Engelhorn Museum, Germany’s Mannheim city, in an exhibition that opened on September 15.

Berlin (VNA) – Nearly 400 archaeologicaltreasures from Vietnam are being displayed at the Reiss Engelhorn Museum,Germany’s Mannheim city, in an exhibition that opened on September 15.

Mannheim is the third and final destination ofthe exhibition, which is part of a series of events marking the fifth foundinganniversary of the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership in 2016.

Shown on 500 sq.m. in the second floor of themuseum, many of the antiquities date back to the prehistoric period whileothers were found in My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam province and the ImperialCitadel of Thang Long in Hanoi.

They include stone and terracotta statues ofsacred animals along with bronze bells.

In his opening remarks, Director of the museumAlfried Wieczorek said after nine years of preparation, thanks to the supportof scientists and archaeologists of both countries, valuable treasures havebeen displayed so that visitors can see to learn more about the culture andhistory of Vietnam.

He said he hopes the exhibition will attractmany visitors and open up new opportunities for cooperation in preservation,museum and archaeology, helping to encourage German tourists to visit Vietnam.

The exhibition is scheduled to last throughJanuary 7, 2018.

Earlier, the antiquities were displayed at theLWL Museum for Archaeology in Herne city from October 2016 to February 2017 andat the State Museum of Archaeology Chemnitz in Chemnitz city from March toAugust this year.-VNA
