The General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organisation(WIPO) passed a vote to elect Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh,Vietnam’s permanent representative to the United Nations, the WorldTrade Organisation (WTO), and other international organisations, as thenew Chair of the WIPO Coordination Committee during its 54th sessionon September 23.
Vietnam strongly supports the WorldIntellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in its innovative efforts toprotect intellectual property worldwide and address newly arisingproblems, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh said in his speech atthe 54th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member Statesof WIPO.
He spoke highly of the coordination between WIPOmember states, aiming to develop suitable strategies and projects foreach individual member.
He stated that Vietnam would do itsbest to utilise the country’s advantages and overcome the difficultiesahead in the field of intellectual property, making way for morecreative ideas and inventions.
WIPO is the global forum for thepromotion of intellectual property (IP) policy, services, informationand cooperation. As a specialised agency of the United Nations, WIPOassists its 187 member states in developing a balanced international IPlegal framework that meets society’s evolving needs.
Itprovides assistance in obtaining IP rights in multiple countries,resolves disputes, delivers capacity-building programmes to helpdeveloping countries benefit from IP, and provides free access to uniqueknowledge banks on IP information.
