Vietnam wins two golds at Asian Youth Games

Two gold medals on August 21 marked the Vietnamese team’s best performance day at the 2013 Asian Youth Games which is underway in Nanjing, China.

Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won goldin the girls’ 200m backstroke, clocking 2’12’’65, exceeding Republicof Korea ’s Im Dasol with 2’15’’09.

This is Vien’s second medal at the Games. She pocketed a silver medal on August 20 in the 100m backstroke event.

In girls’ high jump, Nguyen Thi Truc Mai brought a surprise when shecrossed 5m90, surpassing another Chinese jumper to bring home the secondgold for Vietnam ’s team.

Besides, Tran Thi Maiwon a silver in the girls’ 3,000m steeplechase and Nguyen Thi Lan gotanother silver in the girls’ 100m hurdles. Truong Thi Kim Tuyen wonbronze in the girls’ taekwondo under 47kg.

In tennis,Ly Hoang Nam advanced to the men’s singles semi-final, where he willmeet unseeded rival Popko Dimitri of Kazakhstan .

With the August 21 result, Vietnam is currently at the 10 th placeon the medal tally with two golds, four silvers and one bronze.-VNA
