Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese students brought home one silver andfour bronze medals from the World Mathematical Olympiad 2018 that recentlyended in the US.
Nguyen Ngoc Khanh Linh won the silver, while the bronze medalists wereTruong Quoc Cuong, Dinh Nhat Minh, Pham Ngoc Huyen and Lam Huu Hao. They areall sixth grade students of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School for Gifted Studentsin Ho Chi Minh City.
This is the third year that Vietnam has entered the final of the WorldMathematical Olympiad to compete with students from nine countries – the US,Canada, the UK, China, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Mexico.
The Vietnamese team comprised of 12 sixth graders from Tran Dai NghiaSecondary School for Gifted Students, with carefully preparations.
This year, the World Mathematical Olympiad’s tests focused on exploring creativity,teamwork, logical capacity and skills to deal with problems.
To prepare for the contest, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Educationand Training worked with EMG Education Company – the official representativeagency of the World Mathematical Olympiad Association in Vietnam – to train thestudents.

Vietnamese students bagged two gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Thailand, rising to fifth place of the 104 participating teams, revealed the Ministry of Education and Training’s Department of Education Testing and Accreditation on July 15.
