New York (VNA) – Vietnam welcomed the agreement just reached on the working methodologies ofthe Constitutional Committee in Syria and underscored the importance ofrebuilding trust and confidence to overcome long‑standing differences between the sides in the country.

Addressinga meeting of the UN Security Council on the political process in Syria onSeptember 28, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN Pham Hai Anh shared the concern about theplight of Syrian people and called for concrete steps towards a politicalsolution that would ensure long‑term peace and security. 

Theambassador added that the international community must remain united and unwaveringin its support for the Syrian people.

He calledon all parties to exercise maximum restraint, while noting that efforts tofight terrorism should also be made in accordance with international law andrelevant resolutions of the UNSC.

Atthe meeting, Special Envoy of the Secretary‑General for Syria, Geir Pedersenannounced that, after eight months of facilitation efforts, the SyrianGovernment and the opposition had agreed to hold the sixth session of the SmallDrafting Body of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva from October18.

ꦦ “Iam convinced that Geneva can be the place where Syrians committed to durablepeace can begin work with each other in a constructive manner,” he said./.
