Vietnam, WB partner in urban, infrastructure development for 2017-2021
Vietnam and the World Bank (WB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Hanoi on June 28 to establish their sustainable urban and infrastructure development partnership for 2017 – 2021.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam and theWorld Bank (WB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Hanoi on June 28to establish their sustainable urban and infrastructure development partnershipfor 2017 – 2021.
The agreement was inked by Minister ofConstruction Pham Hong Ha and World Bank Country Director for Vietnam OusmaneDione.
Under the MoU, the two sides will fostercooperation and technical support, improve capacity and share experience in perfectinglegal documents, regulations and mechanisms on urban management and developmentand water sector; urban management through training for the Academy of Managersfor Construction and Cities (AMC); and adjusting national urban developmentplanning and building the national urban development programme for 2021-2030 andregional development initiatives.
They will also work to build effectivetools in support of urban development projects in order to tackle urbanisationchallenges and promote reforms in the water sector.
Speaking at the signing ceremony,Minister Pham Hong Ha underlined the importance of urban and infrastructuredevelopment to Vietnam.
In addition to urban clean water, theministry and the WB will together look into their future cooperation in rural cleanwater in order to cope with climate change.
Dione also expressed his specialinterest in reforms in the water sector, particularly encouraging the privatesector’s investment to ease public debt burden.
He agreed to provide technical trainingfor workers in the sector, including those from the Mekong Delta.-VNA
