Vietnam, US continue cooperating in SR, disaster response

Hanoi (VNA) – Armed forces of Vietnam and theUnited States need to continue effectively cooperating in disaster response,search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance to reinforce the bilateraldefence ties, said Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh on June 19.

Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the VietnamPeople’s Army, told American Major General Michael Stencel, the AdjutantGeneral of the Oregon National Guard during their meeting in Hanoi.

Together with the development of the Vietnam-USComprehensive Partnership, the two countries have seen good progress in thebilateral defence ties in multiple areas, the Vietnamese military officialsaid.

He expected that the visit of Major General Michael Stencel will contribute tothe enhancement of the two nations’ relations and armed forces in the timeahead.

Thanking Minh for his reception, Stencel informed hishost on results of his meeting with the National Committee for Incident,Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue to review cooperation between the twosides.

The two sides have been working together in information sharing and search andrescue exercises, the US officers said.-VNA
