Montevideo (VNA)🥀 - Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina and Uruguay Ngo Minh Nguyet recently presented her credentials to Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou.

Speaking to 23 ambassadors presenting their credentials on this occasion, President Lacalle Pou expressed his hope that they will work closely with the incoming government, set to take office on March 1, to strengthen their countries' relations with Uruguay across various fields. Vietnam and Uruguay established diplomatic relations on August 11, 1993. For the last more than three decades, bilateral ties have steadily progressed, marked by high-level exchanges between their governments, legislatures, and localities. In 2023, the two countries organised many significant events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship. Vietnamese statistics show that bilateral trade surpassed 125 million USD in the first 11 months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 29.7%. The Southeast Asian nation's exports to Uruguay reached 85.16 million USD, up 25.4%, while imports from the South American country totalled 40.08 million USD, rising 39.8%.
While in Uruguay, Ambassador Nguyet held a working session with Speaker of the House of Representatives Ana Olivera, representatives of the Communist Party of Uruguay, and officials of Montevideo capital. During her meeting with Olivera, the Vietnamese diplomat lauded Uruguay's recent economic achievements, particularly in maintaining political and social stability. She also expressed her belief that the Government of President-elect Yamandu Orsi will continue leading the country and its people to more successes during the coming term. Nguyet added that she hopes the two countries will establish parliamentary friendship groups to further boost bilateral ties, especially in parliamentary cooperation, for the sake of both peoples.
On this occasion, the ambassador expressed gratitude to Uruguayan friends for their solidarity and friendship with Vietnam, sentiments towards late President Ho Chi Minh, as well as their support for the Vietnamese people's past struggle for national liberation and reunification. She called on both sides to collaborate to complete the construction of a monument to President Ho Chi Minh at the Vietnam Park in Montevideo, describing this as a meaningful symbol of the enduring solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Uruguay. For her part, Olivera praised Vietnam's remarkable economic achievements in recent years, along with its growing role and position in the international arena. She also expressed confidence that in her capacity, Ambassador Nguyet will make positive contributions to fostering the sound relations between the countries.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives pledged to fast-track the establishment of the Uruguay - Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group and support the completion of the monument to President Ho Chi Minh in Montevideo./.
