Vietnam-UAE Inter-Governmental Committee convenes 5th meeting in Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani binAhmed Al Zeyoudi co-chaired the fifth meeting of the Vietnam-UAE Inter-GovernmentalCommittee in Hanoi on October 8.
Dien affirmed that the meeting was an important andsignificant event in celebration of the 30th founding anniversary ofthe two countries’ diplomatic relations this year.
Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that the UAE Governmentalways considers Vietnam an important partner in the Asia-Pacific region, and wishesto strengthen cooperation with the country in all fields. He recommendedboth sides to continue coordinating closely in implementing measures topromote friendship and multifaceted cooperation in the coming time.
The two sides reviewed the outcomes of bilateral cooperationsince the fourth meeting in 2019, and discussed issues of mutual concern aswell as new solutions to promote the bilateral cooperation in all fields.
Regarding trade cooperation, the scale of two-way trade hasbeen maintained at 5 billion USD per year since 2019, helping Vietnam rank inthe top 10 largest import partners of the UAE and in return, the UAE become one of Vietnam's largest trading partners in the Middle East region.
They agreed that the two countries still have a lot of potentialto continue expanding and developing cooperation, especially in the contextthat both nations are actively promoting negotiations towards the signing of aComprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The two sides discussed and agreed to actively promote theexchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, and continueto strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums andinternational organisations.
It is also necessary to closely coordinate to review and strengthenthe legal framework to create favourable conditions for cooperation such as thecomprehensive economic agreement, the agreement on cooperation and mutual supportin customs, the agreement on extradition, and the agreement on transfer ofsentenced persons.
Attention should be paid to studying investment and businesscooperation opportunities in potential industrial and energy fields such aschemical production, fertiliser, textiles and footwear, electronics andmechanics, automobile, and energy.

State President Vo Van Thuong has exchanged greetings with President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-UAE diplomatic ties (August 1, 1993-2023).

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
The ministry has instructed Vietnamese representative agencies in Israel, Iran, as well as those in neighbouring countries, to closely monitor the situation and request local authorities to ensure absolute safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in high-risk areas.
